2009 Family of the Year Recipients the Alex Padilla Family

The Knights of Columbus as a Catholic, fraternal, and family
oriented organization has always been interested in developing
strong, vibrant families. In support of that philosophy and to
provide more awareness of fine Columbian families, the Supreme
Council in 1978 instituted the “Family of the Month”
program aimed at recognizing outstanding members and their
families.
The Family of the Year committee is instituted for the purpose of
selecting the Council family that best exemplified Columbianism
during the calendar year for which the recognition is made as the
Fr. Emil Kapaun Council “Family of the Year”.
Selection Criteria:
Has the family made significant contributions to the Church,
community and/or council?
Does the family enjoy one another?
Does the family share experiences?
Does the family communicate openly and honestly?
Does the family pray and attend Mass together?
Does the family spend time together interacting, other than in
front of the television set?
The committee considers how each candidate family exemplifies the
traits of a solid Knights of Columbus Family and promotes the
principles of our Church and Order, and which family would be
best called the “model” family for all in the council
to follow. The committee consists of all of the recipients of the
award who are in the local area and thus in a position to observe
the activities of the Council Brothers, and are “in good
standing” in the last quarter of the calendar year for which
the award is to be made.
